Ownership and History of ubank
NAB launched ubank in 2008 as an online bank aimed at customers who prefer to manage their banking themselves. From the start it has operated under NAB’s banking licence rather than holding its own, so ubank products are issued by National Australia Bank Limited.
In 2021 NAB acquired 86 400, an app-based neobank, to bring its technology into ubank. In 2022 the two were combined and relaunched under the ubank brand, with a new app and a refreshed product range.
The 2022 relaunch also opened ubank home loans to mortgage brokers for the first time. ubank has no branches: applications and loan management happen online and in the app, with phone and chat support. You can read more about the parent on our NAB profile.
Where ubank Home Loans May Suit

- Owner-occupiers with straightforward income and deposit positions, and people looking to refinance an existing loan.
- Property investors looking for variable or fixed rate investment loans, including interest-only options in some circumstances.
