Thinktank Home Loans

Thinktank home loans come from Thinktank, an Australian non-bank lender based in North Sydney that specialises in commercial, residential and SMSF property finance and works only through mortgage brokers. Since 1 July 2026, Loan Market Group (LMG) brokers have also had access to its products under the name Thinktank by LMG. This page is a factual profile to help borrowers understand who Thinktank is and where its loans may fit. However, it is not a recommendation, and it does not rate or rank lenders.

Ownership and History of Thinktank

Thinktank began in the mid-2000s as a small-ticket commercial property lender, writing loans of under $3 million for self-employed borrowers and small businesses. Since the start, it has worked exclusively with mortgage brokers. Jonathan Street is its chief executive.

The lender then added SMSF lending in 2013, residential home loans in 2018 and private lending in 2024. It funds its loans partly through securitisation, issuing commercial and, since 2021, residential mortgage-backed securities.

In April 2018 Australian Finance Group (AFG), an ASX-listed mortgage aggregator, acquired a 30.4% strategic stake in Thinktank for $10.9 million and gained the right to appoint two directors. However, Thinktank remains privately held.

Since 1 July 2026, LMG and Loan Market brokers have had access to Thinktank’s commercial, residential, SMSF and private lending products as Thinktank by LMG, which replaced an earlier arrangement known as Go Beyond. Industry press describes it as a white-label partnership. However, Think Tank Group Pty Ltd still provides the credit under its own licence.
