Ownership and History of Resimac

Resimac’s origins go back to 1985, when it began as an alternative source of housing finance. It then grew into an originator, servicer and securitiser of residential mortgages, and became one of the early issuers of residential mortgage-backed securities in Australia.

Later, in 2016, Resimac merged with Homeloans Ltd, an ASX-listed mortgage business. The two brands operated side by side until late 2018, when the group consolidated under the single Resimac brand and the listed parent, Homeloans Limited, took the new name Resimac Group Limited.

Resimac Group Limited trades on the ASX under the code RMC. Somers Limited, an investment holding company, is its majority shareholder. The group also operates in New Zealand and offers asset finance alongside its home loans.

As a non-bank lender, Resimac does not take deposits. Instead, it funds its home loans through warehouse facilities and securitisation, and it distributes them through mortgage brokers as well as its own channels.

Where Resimac Home Loans May Suit

Resimac arranges its home loans into prime and specialist ranges, with full doc and alt doc options in each. Based on independent coverage and the lender’s own material, Resimac home loans may suit:

  • Self-employed borrowers who need alternative income verification, such as bank statements, BAS or an accountant’s declaration, in some circumstances and subject to lender criteria.
  • Business owners and individuals with tax debt owed to the ATO. In particular, Resimac may consider consolidating ATO debt into a home loan, something many lenders are reluctant to do, subject to eligibility and lender criteria.
  • Borrowers whose credit history includes missed repayments or defaults. For example, Resimac may consider them under the specialist range, depending on the circumstances.
  • Borrowers who fall outside mortgage insurer or mainstream bank guidelines, including contract workers.
  • Property investors and owner-occupiers with a straightforward profile, through Resimac’s prime range.
  • Borrowers refinancing an existing home loan.

Home Loan Types Resimac Offers
