Ownership and History of Mortgage Ezy
Peter James founded Mortgage Ezy, and he still serves as its group executive chairman. The company incorporated in 1994 and then took the Mortgage Ezy name in 2001 to reflect its focus on mortgage origination and management, according to its own site and Mortgage Professional Australia. It is a private, Australian-owned company that operates from Bundall on the Gold Coast, where its licensee Mezy Assets Pty Ltd has its ASIC registration.
Mortgage Ezy also describes itself as a national non-bank lender with an exclusive commitment to origination through professional mortgage brokers. It reports processing more than $2 billion in loans a year.
Historically, Mortgage Ezy managed loans funded by wholesale funders. Then, in 2022, the group launched its own non-bank lender, Source Funding, backed by warehouse facilities, and in 2025 The Adviser reported that the Mortgage Ezy Group had become a fully securitised lender with two domestic warehouses and one international warehouse, giving it more control over its own credit criteria.
Where Mortgage Ezy Home Loans May Suit
- Self-managed super funds. In fact, SMSF lending is a core niche for Mortgage Ezy, which industry press has described as a strong advocate of SMSF loans. However, from 10 August 2026, new SMSF borrowing can only fund business real property; see our SMSF loans page.
- Expats and non-residents. Mortgage Ezy offers expat and non-resident lending, including for borrowers with overseas income, subject to eligibility and lender criteria.
- Self-employed and alternative documentation borrowers. Alt doc loans are also part of its product range. See our self-employed loans page.
- Scenarios that need individual assessment. Mortgage Ezy says it prefers to treat borrowers as individuals rather than numbers, and industry press notes it fills gaps left by traditional banks.
- Broker clients. Mortgage Ezy lends only through brokers, so Ingram Financial can lodge and manage the application.
