Ownership and History of Beyond Bank
Beyond Bank’s roots go back to credit unions for Commonwealth public servants in South Australia and the ACT, with the earliest established in 1958. Those credit unions combined to form Community CPS Australia, which grew through further mergers with credit unions in Western Australia, New South Wales and elsewhere, as recorded by the Australian Mutuals Archives.
Then, on 1 August 2013, Community CPS became a mutual bank and changed its name to Beyond Bank Australia, a move reported at the time by Canberra CityNews. The bank describes itself as 100% customer-owned: its members are its owners, so it does not answer to external shareholders.
Beyond Bank has since continued to grow by merging with other customer-owned institutions. Most recently, Family First Bank, which serves the Blue Mountains, Lithgow and the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, merged with Beyond Bank with effect from 1 March 2026, as reported by Australian Broker. Beyond Bank was also the first Australian bank to become a certified B Corp, in 2015.

- Investors. Beyond Bank lends for investment properties as well as owner-occupied homes.
