Ownership and History of Auswide Bank

Auswide Bank traces its history to April 1966, when Ron Hancock founded the Burnett Permanent Building Society in Bundaberg to give Queenslanders an alternative to the major banks. Through mergers with other regional building societies it became Wide Bay Capricorn Building Society and then, in 2003, Wide Bay Australia. Later, on 1 April 2015, it relaunched as Auswide Bank, as both the bank and Australian Broker record.

Then, in February 2025, Auswide Bank merged with Tasmania-based MyState Bank. The merger took effect on 19 February 2025, making Auswide Bank Ltd a wholly owned subsidiary of MyState Limited, an ASX-listed company based in Hobart. The Adviser reported that the merged group kept four customer-facing brands, including Auswide Bank, and told brokers they would see the same business development managers and support teams.

Finally, on 1 December 2025, Auswide transferred its banking business to MyState Bank Limited, and the two banks became a single ADI with Auswide handing back its own licence, according to MyState’s half-year report to the ASX. Even so, the change did not affect the Auswide brand. Auswide Bank now operates as a division of MyState Bank Limited, with its head office still in Bundaberg and branches across Queensland, and it offers its home loans through branches, digital channels and mortgage brokers.

  • Borrowers who want a simple, low-fee loan. For example, Auswide promotes its Basic Home Loan as a no-fuss variable loan with redraw.
  • Borrowers who want an offset account. In particular, Auswide’s Freedom Package loans include a 100% offset account and free redraw on variable or fixed rates.
